Episode 1 is the first episode of the first season of All of Us Are Dead. It is the very first episode of the series overall.
Synopsis[]
Inside Lee Byeong-chan's science lab, a student incurs a seemingly harmless bite. Shortly after, a fast-spreading outbreak soaks the school in blood.
Plot[]
A group of bullies from Hyosan High School led by Son Myeong-hwan attack fellow student Lee Jin-su on a rooftop. Jin-su initially does not resist the attack, but after Yoon Gwi-nam presses his shoe down against his face, Jin-su begins growling and suddenly attacks his tormentors. The bullies win the fight, throw him off the roof, and leave him for dead.
Jin-su is taken to hospital, where a doctor reports that he has been severely injured and will die without immediate surgery. Jin-su's father Lee Byeong-chan overhears this and sneaks into the emergency room, where Jin-su regains consciousness and apologizes for having attacked the bullies, saying it will never happen again. When Byeong-chan tries to comfort him, the boy grows agitated and tells him that nothing will ever get better unless he kills the bullies. He then tries to escape the bed and bite his father, but Byeong-chan - who does not seem surprised by the sudden changes his son is undergoing - tells Jin-su he loves him, then beats him unconscious with a hospital Bible and sneaks him out in a wheeled suitcase. As he does, the body starts to move again.
The next day after classes end at Hyosan High, one of the bullies, Kim Hyeon-ju, falls asleep in the science lab and is left behind by her classmates. She is about to leave when she hears a strange noise coming from the science office. On investigating the sound, she finds an infected mouse, which bites her on the finger. Byeong-chan, who is the school science teacher, finds her, beats her unconscious, and locks her in the office.
Outside, Lee Cheong-san and his best friend Han Gyeong-su are walking home. Cheong-san complains that his mother has named her new restaurant after him, but after bumping into his childhood best friend Nam On-jo and her friend Yoon I-sak, the four of them go to have dinner in the restaurant. Lee Cheong-san's mother asks for their opinion on the chicken, and they tell her it's good, but salty. Gyeong-su says that if they ever need a delivery boy, he'd be happy to take the job.
The next day, On-jo has breakfast with her father, firefighter Nam So-ju, who tells her that he doesn't care what grades she gets so long as she is safe and healthy, because everyone is equal in an emergency. Lee Na-yeon walks to school from her gated residence, watching class president Choi Nam-ra walk past, then a group of boys including Gyeong-su vault over the gate to take a shortcut to school. Gyeong-su smacks Na-yeon on the back while passing her, causing her to snarl and call him a bastard.
Meanwhile, the three remaining bullies- Gwi-nam, Myeong-hwan, and Park Chang-hoon- force fellow student Kim Cheol-soo to film his friend Min Eun-ji topless as revenge for having told the teacher about the bullying. Then, former bully Lee Su-hyeok appears and tries to force Myeong-hwan to let his victims go, but Gwi-nam threatens to send the video to Eun-ji's mother. Both victims refuse to leave, because if they do, their situation will worsen.
Class 2-5 begin registration by handing in their phones, and teacher Park Sun-hwa asks if anyone has heard from Hyeon-ju as she didn't make it home the night before. The students tell her they last saw her while they were cleaning out the science lab, so Sun-hwa goes to ask Byeong-chan if he's seen Hyeon-ju, which he denies. Sun-hwa hears a noise coming from the office, but Byeong-chan claims it's just a mouse and waits until Sun-hwa leaves before going into his office, where Hyeon-ju is tied to the radiator. Byeong-chan injects something into Hyeon-ju, who briefly seems to calm down from her previous aggressive state and begs him not to kill her. Byeong-chan tells her not to have any hope before he leaves to start his classes.
Later in the morning Hyeon-ju escapes and runs to Class 2-5 before collapsing in front of the other students. Sun-hwa enlists several of the other students to help take her to the nurse's office, where Hyeon-ju bites the nurse before being restrained, sedated, and taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Back in the classroom, Na-yeon suggests that Byeong-chan is responsible for Hyeon-ju's current state, as revenge for her bullying his son, and tells the others that he smells like a rotting corpse.
Sun-hwa calls the police to arrest Byeong-chan, who begs for Hyeon-ju to be put into secure quarantine as he is dragged away. The principal criticizes both Byeong-chan for causing a fuss about his son's bullying, and Sun-hwa for calling the authorities, as the school's evaluation is coming up and it will make them look bad.
As lunch period begins, the students gather in the dining hall, where I-sak teases On-jo about her crush on Su-hyeok. Outside, Su-hyeok finds Nam-ra and suggests that she should visit Hyeon-ju in the hospital, but Nam-ra refuses, saying that she's only class president because her mother bribed the school, and that any gesture from her would be unhelpful. Su-hyeok says he's surprised to hear her say more than five words, and Nam-ra puts her headphones into her ears before walking away from him.
Upstairs, the nurse begins to feel ill and transforms into a zombie. Chang-hoon and Myeong-hwan find her in her office and film her, assuming she's drunk. The nurse hears them laughing in the corridor and attacks Chang-hoon, biting him so hard in the cheek that the flesh comes off. As she runs to attack nearby students, Chang-hoon reanimates and enters a nearby class and attacks a pair of students.
Eun-ji has gone to the school roof to commit suicide. Cheol-soo tries to stop her, but is unsuccessful and she is about to jump when she watches several students being tackled to their deaths by zombies from the windows below. The zombies get to their feet and begin attacking others around them as Eun-ji and Cheol-soo watch from the roof as the panic begins. On the ground, Nam-ra's headphones make her oblivious to the panic around her, so Su-hyeok grabs her and the pair flee from an oncoming zombie.
In the cafeteria, On-jo asks Cheong-san what Su-hyeok thinks of her, to which Cheong-san says he doesn't know as they're not close. As On-jo walks away a panicked crowd reaches the cafeteria, breaking down the doors in their desperation to get inside. The crowd is quickly followed by the zombies chasing them, and dozens of students and cafeteria staff are bitten in the ensuing chaos.

- Nearly at the end of the episode, a scene of students panicking and break the door's glass at the dining room entrance, a few fake body props was briefly shown. (59:17)
- Continuity Error: Throughout the whole season the uniform jacket that the fireman were wearing you can that the word 'Rescue' was misspelled showing as 'EMS RESOUE' instead of 'EMS RESCUE'

- In the webtoon, the outbreak happened in the middle of school hours rather than during lunch time.
- In the webtoon, there is no cafeteria scene nor do we see Su-hyeok and Nam-ra fleeing from zombies as Nam-ra hid in the broadcasting room along with the others, and Su-hyeok presumably hid in the calligraphy room during the outbreak.
- The scene where a zombie in the cafeteria only goes for On-jo and ignores other close students may be a reference to how in the webtoon, the zombies would lock on to their victims and wouldn't attack anyone else closeby until they killed their target.
