History[]
Pre-Apocalypse[]
Ha-ri lived in Hyosan and attended Hyosan High School with her younger brother Wu-jin. She was a senior student, as well as one of the most skilled archers on the school's archery team. Before the outbreak, the team lost an archery competition and returned to the school. Ha-ri was singled out and scolded by her coach, who said that archery alone would not secure them admission to a good college after graduating high school.
Post-Apocalypse[]
Ha-ri returns to the school only to find it overrun by zombies, and rushes into the school to find her brother along with Jung Min-jae. Amidst the chaos, they encounter Park Mi-jin and Yoo Jun-seong in the girls' restroom fending off a zombified Lee Ha-lim. Ha-ri shoots Ha-lim through the neck before aiming at the two, uncertain whether they were infected. However, Min-jae prevents her from shooting. Mi-jin, a senior student, then asks the two archers if they have cigarettes, leading to a minor confrontation when Min-jae insults her; Ha-ri warns Min-jae to show respect to his seniors, and also warns Mi-jin against insulting the archery team. As night falls, Mi-jin tries to leave the restroom, but Ha-ri insists they stay put, leading to a physical scuffle between the two that is barely stopped by Min-jae and Jun-seong. The following morning, Ha-ri and the group venture into the halls in search of Wu-jin.
Ha-ri and the group reach classroom 2-5, where Wu-jin and his classmates had previously hid, only to find it overrun by zombies. Pressing on through the school, Ha-ri and Min-jae shoot numerous zombies with their arrows, unaware that the zombies were chasing Lee Cheong-san. The group reaches the infirmary and attempts to contact help, but soon discover that both landline and internet connections have been cut off by the military to control the crisis. Ha-ri suggests they head to the archery team's training center, where they can access an emergency phone and restock on arrows. Jun-seong conversely suggests waiting for rescue in the infirmary, but Ha-ri says that she does not trust the authorities, surprising Mi-jin.
After killing numerous zombies along their path, the group is able to enter the training center. However, Jun-seong sustains an injury, and Ha-ri and Mi-jin search the building for a medical kit. After treating him, the group decides to leave the premises and flee into the nearby mountains. Not long after they leave, however, the stretcher carrying Jun-seong breaks, forcing them to return to the building. Ha-ri helps Min-jae build a sturdier stretcher.
Ha-ri and Mi-jin watch from a window as a helicopter arrives to rescue Kim Cheol-soo before leaving. Ha-ri proposes they go to the rooftop and wait for another rescue attempt, but learns that they cannot advance due to Jun-seong's injury and the ladder being outside. The group decides to remain in the training center. During this time, Ha-ri teaches Mi-jin archery. Mi-jin jokes that mastering archery is easier than studying and that one could secure a college admission just by knowing how to shoot a bow. Ha-ri repeats her coach's words, ruefully stating that the outbreak has dashed her hopes for a promising future. In response, Mi-jin says that she can still have a good future, unlike herself, who smokes and neglects her studies.
That night, the group watches from a window as another helicopter flies above the school before shortly leaving. Ha-ri and Mi-jin shout in an attempt to be seen, but to no success; it is implied that the military squad saw them but chose to abandon them, following new orders to classify all survivors as infected but asymptomatic.
Ha-ri and the group seize the opportunity presented by the ensuing rainstorm to make another escape from the training center. Once outside, Ha-ri saves Seo Hyo-ryung from a zombie before finally reuniting with Wu-jin. The two surviving groups unite and flee inside the gym, where they are attacked by more zombies. Much to Ha-ri's dismay, Jun-seong sacrifices himself to allow everyone to hide inside the equipment room, and Min-jae is forced to flee back outside. The next morning, Wu-jin asks Ha-ri about the preliminary rounds, and Ha-ri lies that she passed. Mi-jin also joins in on the lie, claiming that Ha-ri got a perfect score and secured a direct advancement to the national team. Following this, Yang Dae-su awkwardly professes his romantic feelings to Ha-ri, who rejects him.
The group constructs a movable barricade to facilitate their escape outside the gym. Ha-ri shoots several zombies, but the group finds themselves overwhelmed, prompting Oh Joon-yeong to sacrifice himself as he'd been bitten, allowing the others to advance towards the gym's back door. Ha-ri, along with everyone else, is devastated upon seeing Joon-yeong being devoured alive. Upon reaching the back door, they discover it locked from the outside, but Nam So-ju, On-jo's father, opens it, and the group manages to escape unscathed.
The group flees to the tennis courts, where Ha-ri shoots her last arrow before being tackled by a zombie. So-ju and Lee Su-hyeok come to her rescue. She watches in horror as So-ju lures a horde of zombies away before being bitten, witnessing yet another courageous sacrifice. Later, she comforts On-jo as they take cover on a construction scaffold, and sadly looks on as On-jo and an infected Cheong-san share their last moments before the latter sacrifices himself to lure away the zombies. Ha-ri and the rest of the group manage to escape the school premises moments before it is destroyed in the Hyosan bombings.
The group briefly loses their way in the mountain forest, but eventually finds their path to Yangdong by following ribbons tied to trees by So-ju. Upon arrival, they discover that the city had also fallen victim to the outbreak and are forced to defend themselves against a large horde. Wu-jin intervenes to protect Ha-ri from an approaching zombie but gets bitten in the process, much to her sorrow. He reveals that he is aware of Ha-ri losing the preliminary rounds, but encourages her not to lose hope and keep pursuing archery. Ha-ri watches in anguish as Wu-jin succumbs to the infection and is put down by Choi Nam-ra. Seeking vengeance against the zombies, she attempts to confront an oncoming horde in a final fight until Nam-ra intervenes, urging her not to throw away her life without purpose. In tears, Ha-ri runs off alongside Mi-jin, their hands tightly clasped, as they flee the neighborhood.
Ha-ri and the remaining students—Mi-jin, On-jo, Lee Su-hyeok, Dae-su, and Hyo-ryung—eventually arrive at a military checkpoint, where they are finally rescued and escorted to a safe zone encampment. When interrogated by the military, Ha-ri states that she only attended morning classes and is unaware of any details regarding the outbreak. Several months later, Ha-ri and the group reunite with Nam-ra at the school's rooftop, and is shocked upon learning that there are more "hambies" like Nam-ra.
Physical Appearance[]
Ha-ri has dark brown hair tied in a bun. From just before she leaves the nurses office to when she leaves the archery center, she has her hair in a low ponytail. She wears the Hyosan archery team uniform; she also wore two bags; one for her arrows and the other presumably for her crossbow, but drops them both after losing her crossbow.
In the Quarantine Camp, her hair is tied into a low ponytail and she wears a puffy blue jacket, a white button-up coat, a black turtleneck sweater, black jeans, and black hiking shoes.
Personality[]
Ha-ri is shown to have a determined personality as seen when she entered the school in hopes of saving her brother, but is also shown to be a bit harsh in a few instances as seen when she got mad at Dae-su after he confessed his feelings to her. She's shown to be an excellent archer as seen as most of the zombies she shot at were killed by her arrows. The only time her calm demeanor is broken is when her brother dies.
