Kim Hyeon-ju (Korean: 김현주) was a supporting character and minor antagonist in All of Us Are Dead. She is portrayed by Jung Yi-seo and is voiced by Ashley Park in the English Dub.
History[]
Pre-Apocalypse[]
Hyeon-ju was a student of Hyosan High School and a bully. While she is not shown to have directly participated in the bullying, she was present for at least one incident of violence towards Lee Jin-su, where she complained when the violence got her splashed with rainwater.
Death[]
The day before the outbreak, Hyeon-ju was assigned to clean the science lab, after which she fell asleep. When she wakes up, the other students have left. She goes to leave as well, but stops to investigate a strange noise from the science office. The noise is revealed to be coming from an infected mouse inside a glass box with air holes. Hyeon-ju tries to pet the mouse, but gets bitten on her finger.
She turns to leave the office, but is discovered by science teacher Lee Byeong-chan, who knocks her out and ties her to the radiator to stop her escaping after realizing she's infected. He gags her and injects her with several substances to try and slow the infection. This appears to calm her for a while, and she reverts to a more human state and begs for Byeong-chan to let her go. Her teacher, Park Sun-hwa, is informed that Hyeon-ju hasn't come home that night, and begins searching for her at registration the next morning.
Post-Apocalypse[]
After Byeong-chan leaves to teach his morning classes, Hyeon-ju manages to break free of the science office. She runs to Class 2-5 and collapses in Sun-hwa's arms. Lee Su-hyeok lifts Hyeon-ju onto his back and he, Sun-hwa, Nam On-jo and Yoon I-sak rush Hyeon-ju to the nurse's office, where Hyeon-ju bites the nurse on the arm/wrist. The nurse sedates her and she is taken to hospital by Nam So-ju and his team.
On arriving at the hospital she is taken for an MRI scan to check for brain damage. She completes her transformation into a zombie inside the scanner, and when the panicking doctors pull her free, she bites and infects them. She then escapes into the rest of the hospital, crawling and pulling herself along using her arms; her back having been broken to escape the full body restraints. This sparks the first outbreak of the virus in Hyosan outside of the school.
She is not seen again, but it can be presumed she was killed either during the bombing or by the military eliminating any surviving zombies.
Physical Appearance[]
Hyeon-ju had dark eyes and long brown hair, which she wears loose with a small side fringe. She wore the standard Hyosan female uniform as well as sweatpants under her skirt. She wore the Hyosan High School grey hoodie when she was bullying Jin-su on a rooftop in Episode 1. As a zombie, her face is bloody and pale, with veins popping, and she's missing her shoes.
Personality[]
Little is known about her other than the fact that she was a bully, and the other students didn't wake her up for fear of her getting angry at them. It can be inferred that she was a generally selfish, unpleasant person to be around. She liked small animals, as shown by her trying to pet the lab mouse. She might've also been a bit naïve, since she doesn't question why the mouse is placed at the back of the storage room, why it was covered, or why the box was rattling so violently.

- In the webtoon she wasn't a bully.
- Despite not being a bully in the webtoon, she is hinted to have been somewhat rebellious after her mom mentioned calling the school suspecting she skipped classes again after Hyeon-ju went missing.
- The main reason for her being in the science lab in the webtoon is due to her looking for a private place to smoke after being tired from working in the science lab.
- The mouse did not infect her, rather it was Byeong-chan whom, out of desperation after noticing the bite didn't infect her, injected her with Jin-su's infected blood in order to use her as a human test subject.
- Hyeon-ju is the first human to be infected by the Jonas Virus.
- Hyeon-ju is one of five characters confirmed to be a smoker, the others being Choi Nam-ra, Son Myeong-hwan, Park Mi-jin and NIS Agent.
- Hyeon-ju was indirectly briefly mentioned by a policewoman in a call, with the person calling mentioning a female patient attacking people at the hospital.
- She was once again mentioned by Dae-su during a government investigation in the quarantine camp.
