–Song Jae-ik to Ho-chul after the military bombed Hyosan. |
Song Jae-ik (Korean: 송재익) is a main character in Netflix's All of Us Are Dead. He is portrayed by Lee Kyu-hyung and voiced by Greg Chun in the English dub.
History[]
Pre-Apocalypse[]
Not much is known about Jae-ik, other than that he was a detective working at Hyosan Police Station and has a son.
He was called to interrogate Lee Byeong-chan after he was arrested for kidnapping Kim Hyeon-ju. There he confessed and explained the entire reason for what he did and why. He was skeptical about Byeong-chan's story until the virus began to overrun Hyosan.
Post-Apocalypse[]
While the virus was spreading, the police station was being evacuated and Jae-ik escorted Byeong-chan until the infected overran the station. He first heard several screams while evacuating, before he went out to the hall and noticed a policewoman succumbing to the virus, from there a horde of zombies rapidly filled the hallway and attacked several people. Jae-ik attempted to fend of the infected and was almost bitten by one but Byeong-chan sacrificed himself. In his final moments he informed Jae-ik about his laptop before he stayed behind to slow the horde down.
During his escape from the police station, he saved a junior officer Jeon Ho-chul, and both began making their way towards Hyosan High School in order to retrieve Byeong-chan's laptop. On their way they hid in Cheong-san Chicken and found a zombified Park Hee-su and her uninfected newborn. After a small debate whether to take the baby or not, they attempted to use a nearby motorcycle, but encountered and rescued a little girl named Se-bin who was fleeing from several infected. After making a second successful attempt to escape from the restaurant, they later encounter Orangibberish (who had sought refuge on the rooftop of a day care offscreen after being chased by a horde of infected toddlers). Ho-chul argues that the motorcycle they're on probably won't handle the five of them, but Jae-ik still wanted to help the stranded streamer. So after making his way to the roof, Ho-chul, fearful of nearby zombies, fled in the motorcycle along with the children. During his time stranded on the roof, Jae-ik scolded Orangibberish for entering Hyosan during the zombie outbreak. Not long later, Ho-chul returns with a bus and Jae-ik along with Orangibberish jump on and escaped from the daycare, while the bus was traveling across the streets, they hit Min Eun-ji, after Jae-ik went outside to check on her (not knowing her true nature) a group of soldiers fired at them (presumably confusing them for zombies) after the soldiers realized the group were not zombies, they were brought to the quarantine camp where Jae-ik as well as Ho-chul informed them about Byeong-chan's laptop information. He then overheard Jin Seon-mu's conversation with Assemblywoman Park Eun-hee about bombing Hyosan as he stood by the window of his cell and Seon-mu walking past him. By the look on his face, it's unknown that he made a mistake of bringing Eun-ji in, not knowing she was infected.
He and Ho-chul would witness the bombing of Hyosan through their quarantine room window.
Physical Appearance[]
Jae-ik has short brown hair. He's shown to be physically fit as he was able to fend off a few zombies during the police station attack and was able to run through the streets and jump down the stairwells of the police station with no obvious fatigue. He wears a black zip up jacket with a black shirt underneath, black jeans, and black sneakers. In the Quarantine Camp, he wears a light grey jacket with a grey turtleneck sweater underneath, and light grey jeans.
Personality[]
At first impressions, Jae-ik seemed like a harsh man during the interrogation of Byeong-chan. However, after he escaped from the police station, he's shown to be a more caring and determined man who tries his best to save as many survivors as he can, and eventually informs the military about Byeong-chan's laptop after he and his group get taken to the quarantine camp.

Trivia[]
- In the Webtoon, his personality is completely the opposite with him being a corrupt cop. He has personal hostility with Byeong-chan due to the latter reporting his friend for corruption.
- He also ends up being infected by Hyeon-ju, who was strapped to a mobile bed, and transforms into a zombie in his car after the beginning of the outbreak.
- The Netflix counterpart of Song Jae-ik is likely based on the combination of both Officer Song and Officer Lee in the webtoon (the latter did not appear in the Netflix series), with his personality being more like Officer Lee instead of his Webtoon counterpart.
- Jae-ik is the only main character who has never meet or crossed the group survivors.
- Jae-ik's English voice actor is Greg Chun, who voiced Seong Gi-hun in the English dub of Squid Game, Kim So-yeon's father in the English dub of "The Call", and Gang Dong-gi in the English dub of Sisyphus: The Myth.
