–Dae-su's song.[1] |
Yang Dae-su (Korean: 양대수) is a major character in Netflix's All of Us Are Dead. He is portrayed by Lim Jae-hyuk. In the English dub, he is voiced by Arvin Lee.
History[]
Pre-Apocalypse[]
Dae-su attended Hyosan High School and was a member of the choir. On the day before the apocalypse, he stuck his head out the window and attempted to inhale smoke from staff members smoking outside below him. Jang Wu-jin notices him, scolds and slaps him, and drags him back inside, shutting the window.
On the morning of the outbreak, Dae-su didn't hand his phone in, but was forced to after Park Sun-hwa texted the class group chat. The next day when Kim Hyeon-ju was taken to the nurse's office, he discusses the situation with Wu-jin, Oh Joon-yeong, Lee Cheong-san, and Han Gyeong-su; he suggests that Lee Byeong-chan made "porn" with Hyeon-ju. Wu-jin smacks him in the head, telling him to get his mind out of the gutter.
Post-Apocalypse[]
During the outbreak, he fled through the hallways and was able to reach the classroom where several students hid at, but not before being accidently sprayed by the fire extinguisher Nam On-jo used to help Lee Cheong-san. During the group's time in the school he is always trying to help the others and when the group reached the music room after Cheong-san hid there, he's visibly happy to see him again. Several times through the series he's seen singing a bit, (as seen when he made a song about food in the music room and also the song he made in the rooftop) at one point when the group made the plan to lure the zombies into the music room and use a barricade to keep them from reaching them, he used his voice in order to draw as many zombies into the room before fleeing with the group. When the military squad arrives later at night, he and the others noticed that Ji-min was being lowered back down when the order was given to classify all survivors as infected but asymptomatic. He asked the soldiers why the mission was called off, but they don't answer. As it began to rain, he laid down on the ground as he and the others drank and cried at the same time as they accept that they're on their own again.
After the group hid in the gyms storage room with Jang Ha-ri's group, Dae-su confesses his feeling to Ha-ri (who did not take it well), he also witnessed Oh Joon-yeong's death. He blamed Park Mi-jin for Joon-yeong's death, as Mi-jin had forced him to take responsibility if anyone got bitten since they went with his plan instead of hers, which Wu-jin tells him that it's not her fault that she got him killed, and not to forget that they lost their friends, teachers, and families along the way. After the group escaped the school and witnessed the explosion of the bombing, his leg was injured by the shockwave but carried on with the rest, at one point when the group where fleeing through a abandoned town, Choi Nam-ra sensed nearby zombies following them. He initially tried to convince the group to leave him behind but the others refused and stood their ground against the zombies, unfortunately Wu-jin, Ha-ri´s younger brother would be infected and later killed during this time, he eventually made it with the remaining students to the military checkpoint. While being interrogated, he told an officer about Mr. Lee kidnapping Hyeon-ju from his class. He reunited with Nam-ra along with his fellow students and survivors.
Physical Appearance[]
Dae-su has black hair and is slightly chubby. He wears the standard Hyosan High School male uniform, but with school sweatpants instead of trousers and black rubber shoes. In On-jo's flashback in Episode 1, he wears the Hyosan High school male summer uniform, and plain dark green pants with his uniform. In the Quarantine Camp, he wears a red and dark blue jacket, a black and red checkered coat, beige slacks, and white sneakers, as well as a light brown bomber hat.
Personality and Traits[]
Dae-su is a humorous and lighthearted young man who joined the school choir, with big dreams of becoming a famous singer. He has the voice to match, but unfortunately not the physical attractiveness needed to be marketable. As one of the few survivors of the Hyosan High zombie outbreak, he quickly became a source of comedic relief for his fellow trapped classmates; his propensity to make bad jokes, break out a song or two, and being the center of many awkward moments helped to bring light to the group's otherwise dark situation. But whenever the lives of his friends were threatened, Dae-su was always ready to step up and help them however he could. He's shown lack of common sense when he finished the chocolate bar and failed to offer to Joon-yeong.
