Zombies

The Zombies are a species who serve as the central antagonists of the first season of the South Korean Netflix series All of Us Are Dead. They are former humans/animals that were infected and reanimated by the Jonas Virus, which was created by Lee Byeong-chan with the intention to help his son against bullies.

History[]

After Jin-su attempted to commit suicide by slitting his wrist due to him being severely bullied and the neglect of Principal and school staff, Byeong-chan created the Jonas Virus out of hormones extracted from mice to remove the feeling of fear from his son. However, Jin-su mutated into the first zombie and attacked his mother, causing her to become another zombie, making them patients zero and one respectively. Consequently, Byeong-chan tied his infected son and wife up at his home and tried to kill them many times but was never able to bring himself to do so.

Later, Byeong-chan infected a mouse with the virus to perform an experiment at his office in Hyosan High School, in which the zombified mouse later infected a student named Kim Hyeon-ju by biting her finger, so he forced her into quarantine. However, she managed to escape, resulting in the infection of the nurse at Hyosan High. The nurse then went on to infect Park Chang-hoon and the two were able to quickly spread the virus at Hyosan High School and eventually the entire city.

Personalities[]

Zombies are essentially dead bodies walking as once the virus has fully taken over the body, the original host is killed by cardiac arrest before the virus takes control of the brain.

When reanimated by the Jonas Virus, the zombies' energy is filled to the brim with active rabid rage and only makes guttural snarling noises. The zombies are easily alerted when it comes to nearby noises and would lure a certain place of where the noise is coming from. They also seem to be more attracted to noise rather than "smell", they show no sign of sentience or intelligence other than the desire to eat uninfected living beings and spread the virus, though they may have few memories of their pre-zombie lives as seen when a Zombified Gyeong-su seemed to be lured by Lee Cheong-san's whistle.

They are also shown to be extremely stupid as they can easily be tricked into traps as long as there is either an uninfected human or noise to lure them. This is most likely due to the virus shutting down the brains higher intelligence to fully control the body

Physical Appearances[]

The zombies' appearances usually have their nose bleeding, bloodshot eyes, sometimes blisters, discolouration and dark visible veins by their bitten part. Their attires and bodies are all bloodstained, implying that they got bitten on the part, or must have bitten a previous living human. Their bite marks depend on which portion of them were bitten.

In the webtoon, the virus was shown to also be spread by scratches. In the Netflix series Nam On-jo is scratched by Hyeon-ju but remains completly human.
In the webtoon, the zombies will lock on to certain targets and even have the intelligence to deduce how to quickly get to their target as seen when a zombified teacher rather than falling of a window when trying to reach Hyo-jeong, ran from the classroom into the next classroom where she was climbing into and attacked her there.
In the webtoon, the zombies were shown to even be able to climb up objects, as the zombie who attacked the group in the broadcast climbed over the school's side.
All the students/teachers who died before Gyeong-su aren't seen during the bombing (Not including Ha-lim because she was killed in the bathroom and Jin-su was kept at home, and his mom who he had bit).
